Paper Pencil GRE

The paper-based GRE® Test is offered up to three times a year in locations where computer-based testing is not available. In India, only the computer-based testing is available.

For students in locations where the paper-based GRE® Test is the only option, the following details the test pattern and other relevant information:

• The paper-based test is a linear test, but there will be a paper-based equivalent of all the question types. The only question type not included in the paper-based test is Highlighting an Answer Within a Reading Passage.
• Candidates will enter their answers in a test book.

• They will be provided a calculator to use during the Quantitative Reasoning section.

GRE^® Subject Tests

The GRE® Subject Tests can help a candidate stand out from other applicants by emphasizing on his/her knowledge and skill level in a specific area. If he/she is majoring in one of these subjects, he/she might want to take a Subject Test in addition to the GRE® General Test.

Subject Tests may not be required by schools, but it distinguishes oneself and shows the seriousness in studies and one's future. Each Subject Test is intended to aid in the evaluation of grades and recommendations in one of these six disciplines:

• Biology
• Chemistry
• Literature in English
• Mathematics
• Physics
• Psychology

However, would a GRE® Subject Test score alone (without the general GRE® score) suffice for admissions?

There is not one correct answer to the above question. Different universities may have different norms/selection criteria. Normally, GRE® Subject Test alone may not suffice.

The Subject Tests are given at paper-based test centers worldwide three times a year, in October, November & April.
