All about the GRE Test

a. Reporting Scores
One's test fee entitles to request that scores be sent to as many as 4 graduate institutions or fellowship sponsors. He/she will be asked to designate his/her score recipients at the test center. He/she will be required to pay US$27 per recipient to have scores sent at a later date to any additional institute.

Students MUST report (send) scores to universities that they plan to apply to through ETS only. This is known as “Official Score Reporting.” If students send their scores directly to universities, universities accept them only as “unofficially reported scores” and would require students to report

b.Score Reporting Option
At the end of the test, one will be given the option to cancel one's scores or view his/her unofficial scores. One cannot cancel one's score for one section of the test and have the scores for the remaining sections reported. If one views the scores, he/she cannot cancel them at a later date. Also that because of the Analytical Writing essay scoring process, one will not be able to view the Analytical Writing score at this time.

One can also view one's scores online free of charge. He/she will need to create or have a My GRE Account to view the score. For computer-based GRE® General Test, candidates can view scores online on his/her Online GRE® Account approximately 15 days after the test. Also, scores will be mailed to the student's address.

c. Cumulative Reporting
One's scores are retained for the five testing years following the testing year in which he/she tested. All scores earned during the five testing years following the year in which one was tested will be reported to each institution one designates. Candidates can now select from various options:

On test day at the test center, they can select the

  • ScoreSelect Most Recent option — Candidates can send their scores from their current test administration (FREE)
  • ScoreSelect All option — Candidates can send their scores from all administrations in the last five years (FREE)

Candidates can decide which option to use for each of their 4 free score reports to be sent to graduate institutions or fellowship sponsors.

After test day, candidates can send Additional Score Reports for a fee and select

  • ScoreSelect Most Recent option — Candidates can send their scores from their most recent test administration
  • ScoreSelect All option — Candidates can send their scores from all administrations in the last five years
  • ScoreSelect Any option — Candidates can send their scores from one OR many test administrations in the last five years

Scores for any test administration should be reported in their entirety.

One's score report will indicate one's designated recipients and cumulative record reported at that time. However, the designated recipients will not receive information concerning the other score recipients one has chosen.
