GATE 2022 CSE (SESSION 1, 05-02-2022, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM)

Question Pattern - As per the usual format of the GATE exam, the online exam consisted of both Numerical Answer Type (NAT), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs).

Exam Interface - The Exam Interface was as usual compared to Last Year's GATE Exam.

Exam Analysis - Computer Science

  • The paper involved 34 Multiple Choice Questions, 18 Numerical Answer Type Questions and 13 Multiple Select Questions.
  • No great changes were found in this paper compared to Last Year. Most of the Questions were Conceptual Based and Analytical Questions.
  • General Aptitude - Two verbal ability questions, three reasoning, and five questions from quantitative. All 10 questions are MCQ.
  • Overall, the Difficulty Level of the Paper was found to be Medium.

Exam Analysis - Electrical Engineering

  • The paper involved 32 Multiple Choice Questions, 23 Numerical Answer Type Questions.
  • No great changes were found in this paper compared to Last Year. Most of the Questions were Conceptual Based, Logical and Analytical Questions.
  • General Aptitude - Two verbal ability questions, three reasoning, and five questions from quantitative. All 10 questions are MCQ.
  • Overall, the Difficulty Level of the Paper was found to be Medium.
  • One question from signals and systems is found to be out of syllabus.

Exam Interface - The Exam Interface was as usual compared to Last Year's GATE Exam.

Exam Analysis - Electronics and Communications Engineering

  • The paper involved total of 33 Multiple Choice Questions, 14 Multiple Select Questions and 18 Numerical Answer Type Questions asked in the exam.
  • The paper difficulty level is difficult compared to that of last year. Most of the Questions were Analytical Questions.
  • In Networks, majority of the questions are from Basics and 2-port Networks.
  • In Signals and Systems, majority of the questions are from Fourier Transforms and DFT.
  • In Electronic Devices, Questions are from Semi-Conductors, MOSFETS and Opto electronic devices.
  • In Communications, majority of the questions are from Random variables and Random Process.
  • In Control Systems, Majority of the questions are from Stability Analysis.
  • In Digital and Computer Organization, Majority of the questions are from Boolean Algebra, MUX and Number Systems.
  • Overall, the Difficulty Level of the Paper was found to be Difficult.

Exam Interface - The Exam Interface was as usual compared to Last Year's GATE Exam.

Exam Analysis - Civil Engineering

  • The paper involved total of 23 Multiple Choice Questions, 7 Multiple Select Questions and 25 Numerical Answer Type Questions asked in the exam.
  • The paper difficulty level is difficult compared to that of last year. Most of the Questions were Analytical Questions.
  • In GeoTech, majority of the questions were from Earth Pressure theories and some questions were from properties, consolidation and Foundation.
  • In Transportation, majority of the questions were Traffic Engineering and some from Pavement Design.
  • In Hydrology & Irrigation, Questions were from Hydrograph, Ground Water Hydrology, Cross Drainage Work, Soil Plant Relationship.
  • In Environmental Engineering, majority of the questions were from Quality of Water and some were from Sedimentation Tank, Sewage Treatment and Air pollution.
  • In Surveying, a Question was asked from Bearing and 1 from GPS.
  • In SoM, a Question was asked from Bending Moment, 1 from Flexural Stresses, 1 from shear centre and 1 from cylinders.
  • In Structural Analysis, Question was asked from Trusses, Arches and Frame Analysis.
  • In CMM, Questions were asked from Cement, Project Planning.
  • In Concrete Structures, Question was asked from design of column.
  • In Steel. Question was asked from Connections.
  • In Fluid Mechanics, Questions were are from Flow in Pipes, Properties of Fluids, Continuity, Momentum and Energy Quation.
  • In OCF, Questions were asked from Energy Depth Relationship.

Overall the difficulty Level was Moderate to Difficult.

Exam Interface - The Exam Interface was as usual compared to Last Year's GATE Exam.

Exam Analysis - Mechanical Engineering

  • The paper involved 32 Multiple Choice Questions, 26 Numerical Answer Type Questions and 7 Multiple Select Questions.
  • No great changes were found in this paper compared to Last Year. Most of the Questions were Conceptual Based and Analytical Questions.
  • Two Match the column questions from Manufacturing Engineering.
  • General Aptitude. All 10 questions were MCQ.
  • Overall, the Difficulty Level of the Paper was found to be Moderate to Difficult.
  • The paper was lengthy and difficult as compared to last year.

  • RCC & PCS : Questions were asked from Prestressed Concrete, Appropriate Reinforcement
  • CMM: Question was asked from Construction Material, Flow Chart

  • No changes were found in this paper compared to Last Year as per the Exam interface.
  • Newly designed question on Vibration and Grashof chain from TOM.
  • 3 questions were asked from Newly added topics which were added from gate 2021 syllabus onwards.
  • Most of the Questions were Conceptual Based and Analytical Questions.
  • General Aptitude. All 10 questions were MCQ.
  • Overall, the Difficulty Level of the Paper was found to be Moderate to Difficult.
  • The paper was lengthy and difficult as compared to last year.
