TS-ICET 2015 - Analysis
TS-ICET 2015 was held on 22nd May 2015.
TS-ICET 2015 is the first Telangana State Integrated Common Entrance Test (TS-ICET) for admission into M.B.A. and M.C.A. courses of all the Universities in Telangana State and their affiliated colleges.
This test was conducted by Kakatiya University, Warangal on behalf of Telangana State Council of Higher Education, Hyderabad.
There was no change in the question paper pattern and the marking scheme as compared to ICETconducted during previous years. The question paper consisted of 200 questions to be answered in 150 minutes. There were three sections - Analytical Ability consisting of 75 questions, Mathematics section which had 75 questions and a section on Communication Ability with 50 questions. There was no negative marking. To help you understand this year’s test paper better, we provide you with a comprehensive analysis and solutions, below.

Section A – Analytical Ability
Data Sufficiency:
Questions from topics of Numbers and Plane Geometry dominated this section. This year there were 10 questions from these two topics. Numbers, as such is an important topic under this test are. Other questions were from Mensuration, Modulus, Sets, Quadratic Equations & Progressions. There was no reasoning based question in this section.
On the whole, the data sufficiency part can be rated as difficult, with difficulty level of 2/3rd of the questions being moderate to difficult.
The framing of question on finding number of zeroes in 16 ! appears to be in correct as the question can be solved with out using the data given in the two statements.

Data Analysis:
This part had two DI sets – one with five questions and another with three questions. In addition to this, there were two questions based on Set Theory. The break up of questions from DI was similar to that of Icet 2014 and 2013.
As far as DI is concerned, the set having five questions was based on Pie Chart and the questions were easy. The set of three questions which were based on the data given in tabular form, were also easy, but time consuming as too many calculations were involved.. Overall Data Analysis can be considered to be easy – moderate.
Reasoning: (Problem Solving, Coding-Decoding and Date, Time and Arrangement)
There were 45 Reasoning questions from the test area of Problem Solving.
-
Continuing the pattern that was followed in last few ICETs, this year also there were 20 questions based on series and analogies. About 75% of questions were on Series. There were five odd man out questions.
- The questions on 'Coding – Decoding' have been split into two parts - One set of five questions based on concept of reverse coding and another set of five individual questions. The set of five questions was easy. While two among the five individual questions were of moderate difficulty level and for one of the questions the correct answer was not present amongst the choices.
- The questions on Clocks & Calendar, Arrival & Departure, Blood Relations, Symbols & Notations were of easy-moderate difficulty level. The question on Ranking was incorrect.
Overall, this section was easy. A score in the band of 32-35 out of 45 is a real good score in reasoning !!

Section B –Mathematical Ability
This section was difficult and time consuming. More than 2/3rd of the questions in this section were either moderate or difficult.
While there were few questions which could be solved by direct substitution using the formulae, there were lot of questions which were purely based on the application of the concepts rather that direct substitution in the formulae types.
Over all, the section on Mathematical Ability in TS-ICET2015 was difficult.

Section – C -Communication Ability
brief analysis of each area of the English component is given below.
Vocabulary
As usual, there were six stand alone questions in this part; however, the head words were not very simple and would have required a bit of focused attention to answer. The words were not very commonly used ones. An diligent student can achieve a score of three out of six.
There were four fill in the blank sentences that were uncomplicated; most of the choices were easy picks. It would have been easy to arrive at the correct answer by elimination of those words which were blatantly irrelevant to the idea / context in the sentence.
Functional Grammar
Following the 2014 pattern, there were 15 questions in all in this area, out of which seven were questions on Statements/Conversation and eight were on filling the blanks with suitable verb/phrase/preposition. Common knowledge of the usage of prepositions and phrasal verbs would have made this part a cakewalk. The difficulty level can be pegged between easy and moderate. Probably one question that might have put a student in a fix was whether the sea " encroaches" or " surrounds" around the coast.
Reading comprehension
There were three passages with a total of fifteen questions, with five questions per passage. The passages were all easy to read and uncomplicated in presentation. They were of about 200-250 words.
One passage was a philosophical opinion about letting go. Interesting to read, and simple in presentation, this would have been an easy one for the test takers.
The next one was about the influx of computers, and their effect on our lives. This also had very direct questions.
The third one was about the origin of tea, and how drinking it has evolved to be a ritual in some cultures.
The paper, as mentioned earlier, was nowhere near difficult, and would have come as a relief to the aspirants
Overall, it can be called a moderate section.
Computer and Business Terminology:
Now coming to the questions on computer and business terminology - these are also a part of the Communication Ability section. The questions on Business Terminology can be categorised as moderate-difficult category. While the questions on Summary and Aims of the organisation and MBO were moderate, the question of founder of scientific management was easy. The questions on Marketing Strategy and Strategic Management were difficult. The questions on Computer Terminology can be categorised as moderate-difficult category. The question on flash memory was difficult, the other questions were moderate. A score of 6 out of 10 is a good score.
Overall, TS-ICET2015 paper will be a low scoring paper because of the higher difficulty level of Mathematical Ability section and questions on Data Sufficiency. The English section and the Reasoning section were relatively much easier when compared to the section on Mathematical Ability.
