TANCET - M.C.A 2016 Analysis


               

TANCET 2016 was conducted on 11thJune, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Every year Anna University conducts this exam on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu. Though in the last few years, it was conducted in the month of March / May,this year it was conducted in June.

In TANCET M.C.A 2016, about 68-70 questions were from Reasoning and Computers. Most of the remaining questions were based on arithmetic and very few questions on English.

Over the last few years, many changes took place in the composition of the questions which made it difficult to guess the paper. Even the questions that were based on computers over the last few years had changed a lot.

Quantitative Aptitude

This year the Quantitative Aptitude part of TANCET had questions mainly from the topics – Geometry and Mensuration, Time & Distance, Time & Work, Percentages, Averages, Numbers, Probability, etc. Most of these questions required simple formula substitutions, while a few others required the application of concepts. The following table represents the topic-wise classification of the questions given in the Quantitative Aptitude part, this year.

Overall, these questions were of easy-to-moderate level of difficulty. A well- prepared student should be in a postion to score 16+ marks by spending 30-35 minutes.

Analytical & Logical Reasoning; Verbal Ability

Around 40-45 questions made up these areas of the paper. There were questions based on coding and decoding, venn diagrams, deductions, series, analogies, calendars, direction sense, blood relations, etc. Apart from these, about twelve questions based on Non-Verbal Reasoning were also given and these questions belong to the sub-topics - series, analogies and odd man out. Solving these questions was slightly tedious. Since the difficulty level of the questions based on verbal ability as well as venn diagrams was easy, candidates could easily answer these. The questions on deductions and critical reasoning were moderate to difficult. A well- preapared student should be in a position to get a score of 23+ marks by spending 45-50 minutes.

Computers

As mentioned earlier, questions based on computers in TANCET were not only tough for an ordianary graduate but even for a computer graduate. Over the last years, questions based on computers ranged from programming / flowchart electronics and hardware-related areas to simple terminology or computer awareness. This year the questions based on computers mainly focussed on operating systems, computer organization, networks, software engineering,etc. Totally, there were 24 questions from computers and a score of 12+ can be considered very good.

An overall score of 60+ can be considered very good.
