Each of the sections is scored for the number of correct responses, which is the raw score. There is no penalty for unanswered questions or incorrect responses.
The raw scores on the Reading Test and Writing & Language Test together are converted into a scaled score of 200 to 800 points, and the raw score on the Math Test is converted into a scaled score of 200 to 800. This conversion from raw score to scaled score is done to account for differences in difficulty between various test versions of the test conducted on different dates.
Details
Evidence-based Reading and Writing Section: The raw scores on the Reading Test and Writing & Language Test are computed separately, converted into respective scaled scores which are then added. The sum is then multiplied by 10 to arrive at a final scaled score in the range 200 to 800.
Math Section: The raw scores on the two Math sections are computed separately, added to arrive at one value for the raw score. This raw score is converted into a final scaled score in the range 200 to 800.
SAT Essay: Each essay is scored by two raters, who will each assign a score on a scale of 1 to 4 (numeral increments) on the above three parameters. These scores will be added to arrive at a final score on a range of 2 to 8.
Sub Scores
Apart from the above, there will be 7 different Sub Scores given on a scale of 1 to 15 on the score card for each of the below sections:
