Section wise Analysis

Section 1 : Logical and Critical Reasoning:

Amongst all the sections, this was most time consuming. Overall difficulty level of this section could be described as moderate to slightly difficult. However, one could have skipped few difficult questions, and there by utilized that time in solving the other sections. An attempt of 45-50 questions in 60 mins would be a good strategy.

Analytical Puzzles :

This area had the maximum number of questions. There were many regular type of questions like Linear Arrangement, Circular Arrangement, Distribution, and Arrangement of people on different floors. Two sets of distribution were comparatively difficult and could have been skipped. Usually questions on analytical puzzles are asked in sets, each set containing 4-6 questions. This year apart from this there were four individual questions on analytical puzzles. Nevertheless, all these four questions had less of data and were doable.

Analytical Reasoning:

Input and Output - The logic could have been easily interpreted. The good thing being that based on one Input, the student could solve all the six questions.

Deductions - Various questions types were covered like two statements and two conclusions, four statements and three conclusions. There were also conclusions involving possibility. If the basic concepts of a student are clear, one could solve all the deductions questions.

Quant Based reasoning - There were five questions based on Quant based reasoning. However these individual questions were spaced out throughout the section and not as one single set.

Critical Reasoning - This section was dominated by CR questions like Conclusions, Inferences, Strengthening and Weakening, Cause and Effect (Common and Independent), Paradox Resolution and Similar/Parallel Reasoning. This year, the section saw a new question type asking to identify the hindrances in a particular situation. These ranged from moderate to difficult.

Other areas - Usually, one gets to see individual questions on blood relations and direction sense. However in this paper, there were one set each on blood relations and directions sense. Both of them were easy to moderate.

Section – 2: Abstract Reasoning:

This was the easiest of all the sections. The difficulty level of this section was much easier as compared to CET 2016. One could easily attempt around 18-20 questions in 20 minutes.

Section – 3: Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension

A well prepared student could have attempted around 30-35 questions in 30 mins.This year saw the absence of the traditional Para Jumble questions which were replaced by out of context questions which were of moderate difficulty level.

The section was dominated by Grammar based questions like sentence correction, error spotting and possible starters. The traditional cloze passage based questions saw a different pattern but very easily manageable for any student.

The difficult part in the verbal section were the passages which were difficult due to the nature of questions (most of them being inference) and close options.

Overall an attempt of 30 – 32 questions in 30 mins would be considered a good attempt.

Section – 4: Quantitative Aptitude:

The overall difficulty of the section was moderate. There were a good number of questions that could be solved by a student who has practiced rigorously. However for an untrained student the section would seem to be very difficult. A good number of attempts would be 30 to 35 questions in 40 to 45 minutes.
