CUET UG – 2024 – English Analysis

General Overview: The English section had a 45-minute time limit and consisted of 50 questions. Candidates were only required to answer only 40 questions. The first 40 questions that they attempted in the paper would be considered for evaluation, each worth 5 marks, for a total of 200 marks. There was a one-mark penalty for each incorrect answer. All the questions in the section were of multiple-choice with four options each.

Difficulty Level: Overall, the exam provided a balanced range of difficulties, with the majority of questions falling into the 'easy' category, making it accessible to the majority of students. However, there were a good number of moderate and a few difficult questions, ensuring a thorough assessment of the candidates' language skills.

Composition and Themes of Reading Comprehension Passages: (This analysis is from one of the slots, based on student feedback. The paper had similar themes in all the slots)

The test included four reading comprehension passages, each followed by 6 questions, totalling 24 questions:

1. Passage 1: Gave the point of view of the granddaughter of Premchand and the expectations people in the family have from her. The questions ranged from specific details to vocabulary and inference, mostly categorized as easy with a couple of moderate difficulty questions.

2. Passage 2: Focused on the philosophical concept of free will. This passage included mostly easy questions, with a few moderate ones that tested assumptions and inference skills.

3. Passage 3: Discussed the history of chocolate, providing ample opportunity for direct detail-based questions which were primarily easy.

4. Passage 4: Explored the history of coffee, similar in structure to the chocolate passage, with straightforward questions focused on details and true/false assessments.
