Final Placement Reports of XLRI, Jamshedpur

Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur concluded its final placement process for its batch of 2018 with an average salary of 20 lakh per annum, as against Rs. 19.21 lakhs per annum in 2017.

A total of 358 students from the two-year Postgraduate Diploma in Management – HRM and Business Management (BM) received a whopping 370 offers from 132 participating recruiter companies. Of these, there were 29 first-time recruiters including National Housing Bank and India Health Action Trust. According to XLRI, Jamshedpur, this year the top recruiters were several titans of industry that included PSUs such as HPCL, GAIL and IOCL.

Key Placement Trends: Since the past few years, XLRI has been witnessing a growing trend in average salaries offered to students at campus placements. This year too, the median salary received by the class of 2018 was 21 lakhs per annum while the average stands at 20.1 lakhs per annum.

There has also been an increase in Pre Placement Offers (PPOs) over the years. This rising trend proves that XLRI's students prove their worth every year.

Despite the economic slowdown, this institute has been receiving placement offers that show a marked increase in average and median salaries. A comparative analysis is given below:

Increase in PPOs: Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) have also grown in number over the years. In 2015, the institute received 99 PPOs, but this year, it received 122. The rising trend in number of PPOs proves that students of XLRI are rising to market expectations year after year.

Entry of PSUs: This year, for the first time, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs ) such as GAIL, IOCL and HPCL and National Housing Bank and India Health Action Trust.

Top Recruiters: There were 29 newcomer recruiters out of a total of 132 recruiters at this year's placement drive. They included Accenture, Boston Consulting, Deloitte, EY, PwC, Colgate Palmolive, KPMG, P&G, HUL, GAIL, HPCL, IOCL, Nestle, ITC India, Johnson & Johnson, AB INBev, Mondelez, Heinz, Amazon, etc.    

Sector-wise recruitment: The institute states that sectors such as General Management, Consulting and FMCG were the sectors that recruited the most. Here's a sector-wise look at the recruitment scene in 2018:

Consulting: Top management consulting firms such as Accenture Technology Consulting, The Boston Consulting Group, KPMG, Deloitte S&O, PwC, EY and Deloitte recruited from this domain.

Marketing and FMCG: Over the years, opportunities in Sales and Marketing offered by top companies of the FMCG sector have established XLRI as a preferred campus for student selections for top jobs. This year too, top industry honchos like Hindustan Unilever Limited, Nestle, P&G, Colgate Pamolive, ITC India, RB Johnson & Johnson, Mondelez, AB InBev and Heinz were visible at the campus.

Finance: XLRI's regular recruiters from the Finance sector could be seen at the placement drive. They were JP Morgan Chase, Citibank, Avendus Capital, Societe Generale, Standard Chartered, DBS and Edelweiss.

General Management: The students of XLRI specialize in Human Resources and Business Management functions. So, it was not surprising to see the cream of Indian conglomerates such as Tata Administrative Services, RP Goenka Group, Capgemini and the Aditya Birla Group offering General Management roles.

Operations: One important fallout of the XLRI recruitment process this year was the excellent number of placements across Consulting and Operations. This year, the Boston Consulting Group hired 12 candidates from this prestigious HR institute. They were offered placements in prestigious companies such as P&G, RB and Amazon.

Other renowned recruiters were General Electric, Samsung Electronics, Shell, Bharti Airtel and Star. This year, several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) also participated in the placement drive. They were GAIL, IOCL and HPCL that hired several students along with newcomers National Housing Bank and India Health Action Trust.

With the large turnout of recruiter companies from India Inc, it was evident that the recruiting companies had great faith in XLRI’s quality of education and students. Increasingly, this institute witnesses a rise in the number of recruiters at the drive and the number of offers they make. This stands testimony to the holistic education students receive here and the way they can translate what they learn to market realities.

This institute has been the proud recipient of two renowned international accreditations--The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and Association of MBAs (AMBA). It has also earned the accreditation of the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).
