AP-ICET 2019 was held in the online mode on 26th April 2019. AP-ICET is the Andhra Pradesh State Integrated Common Entrance Test for admission into M.B.A and M.C.A. courses of all Universities and their affiliated colleges in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
The test was conducted by Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, on behalf of APSCHE.
The following analysis is based on feedback given by T.I.M.E. students who appeared for the first slot (10.00 am to 12.30 pm).
There was no change in the pattern of the exam and the marking scheme with regard to AP ICET 2018. The question paper consisted of 200 questions that were meant to be answered in 150 minutes. There were three sections - Analytical Ability consisting of 75 questions, Mathematics section with 75 questions, and the Communication Ability section comprising 50 questions. There was no negative marking for wrong answers. To help you understand this year’s test paper better, we present a comprehensive analysis of the same, below.
The paper presented jumbled questions within the sections i.e. questions of one particular test area were not give at one place. The same format was followed for AP ICET 2018 as well.

Data Analysis:
This part had three sets – one set with 5 questions where data was given in a pie diagram, another set with 3 questions where data was presented in the form of a table, and a third set with 2 questions where data was presented in the form of a Venn Diagram.
This part of the exam was easy, less calculation-based with no tricky questions.
Reasoning: (Problem Solving, Coding-Decoding and Date, Time and Arrangement)
There were 47 questions related to Problem Solving.
Continuing with the pattern followed in last few ICETs, this year also there were 20 questions based on series and analogies. 14 on Series(3 on No & Letter Series, 2 on Letter Series, 9 on Number Series) and 6 on Analogies(1 on Letter Analogy , 4 on Number Analogy and 1 on Number & Letter Analogy)
There were five odd man out questions, and the level of difficulty of these questions are easy to moderate.
Questions on 'Coding - Decoding' were divided into two categories – one set with five questions on nth letter coding, and another five were individual questions.
There were 10 questions on Clocks and Calendars, Blood Relations, Symbols and Notations, Arrival & Departure, Seating Arrangement were easy.
Overall, this section can be given a easy to moderate tag.

About 75% of questions in this section were either easy or moderate.
There were a lot of questions which could be solved directly by substituting the formulae.
Over all, the section on Mathematical Ability in AP-ICET2019 was easy to moderate. The questions in Algebraical/Geometrical/Statistical Ability is slightly difficult as compared to the Arithmetical Ability section.

Section – C : Communication Ability
The English or the Communication ability section of the test can be termed an easy scorer with a total of 50 questions in each, of which 40 exclusively tested the English language skills of contenders.
The break up of the 40 questions of each slot is as given below:
- Reading Comprehension - 3 passages with 15 questions at the rate of five questions per passage
- FIBs - 15
- Synonyms - 6
- Statement / Idioms / Phrases - 4
There were three RC passages with fifteen questions, most of which were direct and reasonably easy to answer. The length of these passages ranged between 150 to 200 words approximately.
The passages dealt with topics on Students’ Attitudes, Organizational Competencies , Novelists’ indifference to the characters they create While a few questions were demanding and tricky, this part can overall be rated as easy to moderate, and would have seemed like cakewalk to a well-prepared aspirant.
There were six direct vocab questions, all of them on synonyms. Most of them were quite uncommon like Subservient, Gratitous. While a few of the choices were confusing, some were easy eliminations for arriving at the correct answer. There were 4 questions on Vocab based FIB, which were difficult to answer. Overall, this part can be given a moderate to difficult tag.
Functional grammar presented hardly any difficulty, and it was along expected lines. Grammar based FIBs were 10 in number, and candidates were instructed to complete the sentences by filling in parts of speech like verbs, prepositions or tensess. These were not at all challenging!
There were three questions that were related to phrase / idiomatic expressions that were underlined, and the option that explained their meaning was to be ticked on. A little bit of verbal reasoning would have accomplished the task quite easily for most. There was one lone question on statement-conversation.
Computer and Business Terminology:
The questions on Computer and Business terminology are a part of the Communication Ability section, and this year it was no different.
The questions on Business Terminology can be categorised as easy to moderate; questions were based on Balance Sheet, Overdraft, Golden Handshake, Maslow Hierarchy etc..
Questions on Computer terminology were based on Modem, Cybersquatting, Crowd sourcing, Dumb Terminal etc...

Section – C : Communication Ability
The English or the Communication ability section of the second slot of the test can be termed an easy scorer with a total of 50 questions in each, of which 40 exclusively tested the English language skills of contenders.
The break up of these 40 questions of this slot is as given below:
- Reading Comprehension - 3 passages with 15 questions at the rate of five questions per passage.
- Vocab based FIBs - 5
- Direct Vocab questions (Synonyms)- 7
- Statement / Conversations -3
- Idioms / Phrases -2
- Question tags -1
- Active / Passive Voice -1
- Sentence correction -1
- Grammar-based FIBs -4
There were three RC passages with fifteen questions which were direct and quite simple to attempt. The word count of these passages ranged roughly between 150 to 300 words. The passages dealt with a variety of topics. While a few odd questions were slightly tough, most of them ranged between moderate to easy, and very easy on the mind of well-prepared test-takers.
There were seven direct vocab questions, all of them on synonyms. While most of them were familiar words, a few were also unfamiliar ones that could have needed some thought before clicking on the correct choice. However, elimination would have made things easier, as few choices were confusing. Overall, this part too can be given a moderate to easy tag.
Functional grammar presented hardly any difficulty, and was hence along expected lines. Grammar based FIBs were 4 in number, and candidates were instructed to complete the sentences by filling in parts of speech like verbs, prepositions and articles. These were not at all challenging! On the other hand, the five vocab based FIBs were comparatively of a higher level of difficulty, and must have required some additional attention. This year, there was one question on question tag, which was also relatively easy to attempt. A reasonably normal test on the whole!
There were two questions that were related to phrase / idiomatic expressions, and the option that explained their meaning was to be ticked on. These idioms were common ones, and hence not a bother at all! There were three questions on statement-conversations, and only one among them could have needed extra thought. Hence, we can classify these questions too as doable and moderate in nature.
Finally, it is clear from the feedback received from our students, that the exam in the second slot in essence maintained its easy tag, and did not disturb candidates at all!
Computer and Business Terminology:
The questions on Computer and Business terminology are a part of the Communication Ability section, and this year it was no different.
The questions on Business Terminology can be categorised as easy to moderate; questions were based on Venture Capital, Invoice, Consensus, Start-up etc..
Questions on Computer terminology were based on Metadata, e-waste, Motherboard, Modem full form etc… These can be classified as easy to moderate.
