As per information shared by the IIMs with some news websites, the number of applicants for CAT saw a huge jump. A total of 2,32,434 applications were received by the IIMs for CAT 2016. This is an increase of around 14000 applications compared to CAT 2015. This is also the highest number of applicants for CAT in the last seven years and the third consecutive increase in the CAT applicants since CAT 2013, which saw 1.94 lakh applicants, translating into a net increase of around 20% from CAT 2013-2016.
The extension of CAT application window, by 5 days till 27th Sep, has contributed significantly to increase the number of applicants. 24 thousand applicants availed the benefit of this extension and applied in the last 5 days of the application window.
This year the CAT examination is scheduled to be conducted on Dec 4, 2016.
The tutorial to understand the format of the examination will be available on the CAT website from 18th October 2016. Students have been eagerly waiting for this tutorial to be available, as the number of questions (overall and sectional) have not been specified by the IIMs in the notification/website so far. The number of questions plays a crucial role in the test-taking strategy, and students hope that the tutorial may through some light on this aspect.
Admit cards will be available for download from the CAT website, also from 18th Oct.
The results are expected to be released in the second week of January.
