To help you understand this year's test paper better, we bring you a comprehensive analysis of NIMCET 2014.
MATHEMATICS
The questions in this section were relatively difficult as compared to those given in NIMCET 2013. This section had 50 questions. The difficulty level of more than 60% of the questions was moderate. As the paper had negative marking, avoiding the difficult questions would benefit students.
Overall, this section was moderate to difficult. In order to maximize the score in this section, the best strategy to answer would have been identification of easy ones and solving them first. A good strategy for this section would be not to spend time unnecessarily on difficult questions. Ideal time frame to attempt the questions in this section is 40 min.
The distribution of questions from each topic, along with their difficulty levels, is given in the table below.

ANALYTICAL ABILITY AND LOGICAL REASONING:
Of the 40 questions in this section, 7 were from topics related to Arithmetic and the remaining 33 questions were from Reasoning. Every year, a few questions from Arithmetic appear in this section.
Questions on Analytical Puzzles formed the major chunk in the Reasoning part. Among them, a majority were from Linear Arrangement (double row arrangements). These are always time-consuming. The lone set on direction sense was of moderate difficulty level, mainly because the questions were framed in such a way that each one needs to be handled individually. This set too was time consuming.
The distribution of questions from each topic, along with their difficulty levels, is given in the table below.

COMPUTER AWARENESS:
The section on Computer Awareness consisted of questions on Number representation.
Out of 10 questions - 4 questions were based on Number conversions, 2 on Number notations, 3 questions on Fixed point and Floating point operations, and 1 of them was based on Boolean Algebra.
ENGLISH:
The English Section of the NIMCET – 2014 paper, in which a majority of the questions asked can be categorized as easy, was fairly simple.
Overall, the English section had 20 questions, out of which 10 questions were vocabulary based, 2 were on Verbal Reasoning and a total of 6 questions pertained to Functional grammar.
There was only one short RC passage of about 120-130 words; only 2 questions were asked from each passage, and these were direct and straight picks from the passage. A couple of vocab questions were slightly tricky. Almost three questions in the vocab part can be categorized as moderately difficult. Grammar questions, which were based on parts of speech, active and passive voice, direct indirect speech questions tags, were all very simple and the two questions on verbal reasoning i.e., rearranging the parts of a sentence, were a cakewalk.
Hence, the English section offers scope to a reasonably well-prepared student to score full marks.
To summarise, when compared with the NIMCET 2013 paper, the Maths section this year was relatively difficult and questions on reasoning were also slightly difficult. The questions on Computers were moderately difficult. The English part was easy. Overall, the exam was slightly more difficult than the NIMCET 2013 exam.
